Guru Nanak Sweets

Guru Nanak Sweets is located right on the Mumbai Pune Highway 200 in Mohali. Being on the highway means we see a lot of travelers passing through. Most of them are in a hurry, so they just grab a box of sweets or a quick snack and head back to their cars. It’s a different vibe than a neighborhood shop. We don’t see the same people every day, except for some of the truck drivers who have their regular routes. The shop is quite open and we keep the glass cases filled with all the usual sweets like laddoos and barfi. We have to make everything in large quantities because you never know when a bus might stop by. It can go from being completely empty to having twenty people in line in just a few minutes. We keep the floor swept, but with people coming in from the dusty highway, it’s a constant battle. My brothers and I run the place together. We take turns with the early morning shifts. The heat from the highway asphalt comes right into the shop during the summer, so we have a few big fans blowing all the time. It’s a busy life, but it keeps us on our toes. We don’t have much time for sitting around. We just keep the trays full and the change ready. It’s been our family business for a good while now, and we just keep it going one day at a time.
