Sanjay Saree Wala

We are over in Karol Bagh at 5424-25 Rehgar Pura, right on Arya Samaj Road. This part of Delhi is never quiet. Even early in the morning, there’s noise from the street and people setting up their stalls. Sanjay Saree Wala is a name people around here recognize because we’ve been around the block a few times. The shop is filled with sarees of all kinds, and they are piled up in stacks that sometimes feel like they might tip over. We spend hours every day showing different pieces to customers who come in. Some people stay for a long time trying to decide, and we just keep bringing out more options. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting the heavy bundles and unfolding them. The floor is usually covered in bits of thread and plastic by the end of the day. We don’t have a big corporate mission or anything. We just want to sell sarees and make enough to keep the lights on. Arya Samaj Road is a tough place to work sometimes because of the heat and the crowds, but it’s also where all the action is. You get used to the shouting of the rickshaw drivers and the smell of street food from next door. It’s just a busy shop in a busy city.
