Working in Darya Ganj is an experience like no other. My place is on Bharat Ram Road, at address 4772 23. If you have ever been to this part of Delhi, you know that the streets are narrow and the buildings are very old. It is a place filled with history and a whole lot of noise. Every morning, the sounds of the city waking up start early, with vendors shouting and the constant honking of rickshaws. My office is tucked away in one of these old buildings, and it has high ceilings and thick walls that keep it somewhat cool in the blistering summer heat. I spend my days surrounded by stacks of files and the smell of old paper. It is a busy life, and there is always a feeling that there isn't enough time in the day to get everything done. I don't have a fancy lobby or a receptionist. If someone wants to see me, they just walk in. I have been in Darya Ganj for a long time and I have seen many businesses come and go, but I have stayed right here on Bharat Ram Road. I enjoy the chaos of the area, even if it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. There is a certain energy to this part of the city that you don't find anywhere else. I just keep my head down and focus on the work, taking tea breaks when I can and talking to the other local owners. It’s a simple, busy existence.
