Akbar Gift Centre is at 96 M M Janpath Market. If you’ve ever walked down Janpath, you know exactly how it is. It’s loud, colorful, and there are people from everywhere. We’ve been at number 96 for a long time. The shop is small, but every inch of it is filled with something. We spend a lot of time just moving things around so people can actually walk inside without bumping into stuff. It’s a constant battle with the dust because of the open market style, but we do our best with a cloth every morning before we open. Janpath is a unique place to work. You meet people from all over the world just standing at the doorway for a few minutes. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept in the back. It’s a lot of standing and waiting, then a lot of rushing when a group comes in all at once. We don’t have a polished corporate look or a fancy logo. Our sign is a bit weathered and the floors are worn down from all the feet that have passed through. But that’s just the way it is in an old market like this. We like the energy of Janpath. It’s never boring, that’s for sure. We just keep our heads down and keep the shop going, day after day, right here in the middle of the market. It is a busy life but we enjoy it.
