Ratan Tata Steel

Our shop is out in Bokaro Steel City, specifically in the village and post office area of Tehsil Bokaro. We’re pretty close to the D.P.S. School, so we see a lot of school buses and parents driving by every morning and afternoon. Being in a place like Bokaro, steel is basically in the air we breathe. Everyone here knows someone who works with metal. At Ratan Tata Steel, we are just one small part of that big picture. We operate out of a fairly simple setup. It’s more of a warehouse and a yard than a proper office. The ground is usually covered in some kind of grit, and there’s always a truck being loaded or unloaded nearby. It gets pretty loud when the heavy machinery is running, but we’re used to it. We don't spend much time on marketing or anything like that. We just focus on the inventory we have and getting it to the people who need it. Most of our day is spent checking gauges and moving heavy stacks around. It’s tiring work, especially when the sun is beating down on the tin roof, but it’s what we do. We’ve been here for a while and we know the local landscape well. It’s a basic, hard-working life here near the school, just keeping the steel moving and making sure the orders are ready on time. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if it were quiet.
