Down in Bodri, near Bilaspur, our school sits in a spot that’s usually pretty quiet until the buses arrive. Chhattisgarh gets really hot, so our days are mostly about staying in the shade and getting through the work before the sun gets too high. The building is a decent size, and we have enough rooms for all the different grades. It’s not a very complicated place. We have some trees around the perimeter that help a little with the heat. Inside, it’s mostly just white walls and rows of desks. The staff here are local people who’ve been around Bilaspur for years. We talk about the weather a lot while we’re waiting for the first period to start. There’s always some paperwork to do or a desk that needs a screw tightened. We don’t use a lot of big words or fancy equipment. It’s just about having a place for the kids to sit and learn their subjects. The playground is where most of the energy is spent during the lunch hour. You can hear the kids shouting from quite a distance. When the day ends, the buses line up and everyone heads back home. It’s a very standard routine that we’ve been following for a long time. We don't change much because this way of doing things seems to work for the families here in the 495223 area. We just keep showing up and doing our part. In the morning, you can see the sun rising over the fields near the gate.
