Kunjan Bai Memorial School

Our school sits on Masjid Wali Road in Pendra, which is part of the Bilaspur district. It’s a memorial school, named after Kunjan Bai, so there is a bit of history attached to the name. The area here in Chhattisgarh is quite beautiful, especially during the monsoon season. Our building is a simple structure on a fairly busy street. You can see people going to the masjid or heading into the market while the kids are in class. We have a range of grades and the classrooms are usually full. It’s not a quiet, isolated campus. You can hear the sounds of the neighborhood all day. We have a small staff and everyone knows everyone else. We don't have a big cafeteria or a swimming pool. The kids bring their own lunches and play in the dirt during their breaks. We focus on the textbooks and making sure the students pass their exams. The local language is what we mostly use to explain things, even though the books are in English or Hindi. We don't try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a local school for local families who want their kids to learn. We've been at this address for a while now and most people in the 495119 area know us. It’s a practical, no-nonsense place to get an education.
