Gram Itava is a quiet place and we operate out of H.No 125. It’s right near the post office, so it's easy to find if you’re looking for us. Tilkeshwar Kisan Producer Company Limited isn't a fancy name we use every day; usually, people just say they’re going to the house at number 125. There are about six of us who handle the day-to-day things. The floors are concrete and we keep the grain samples in small bags on the shelves. It smells like dry earth and jute sacks most of the time. When the harvest starts, things get really hectic around here. We have farmers coming in from all over the post Itava area, asking about prices or needing help with their supplies. It’s a lot of shouting over the sound of motorbikes and tractors. We don't have a big sign outside, just a small one near the door that’s starting to fade from the sun. The chairs in our meeting room are a bit mismatched because we just brought them from our own homes when we started the company. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep going. It’s a local effort, and Tilkeshwar Kisan Producer Company Limited is basically just a group of friends and neighbors trying to make a living from the land. We don't have a secretary, so if the phone rings, whoever is closest just picks it up and starts talking.
