Priya Barber Shop

Priya Barber Shop is located out at Tilakhedi Jod, which is part of the M P Market in Fanda, Bhopal. It is a bit further out from the main city, so things are a little slower here. My father started this shop a long time ago and I just kept it going. We have a couple of old wooden benches outside for people to sit on if there is a wait. The shop itself is just a small room with the basic things needed for a barber. I use a straight razor for shaves and have a few sets of clippers that I try to keep running well. Fanda is the kind of place where everyone knows their neighbors, so most people who walk in are friends or cousins. We spend a lot of time talking about the crops or the local politics while I work. The lighting isn't the best in the evenings, but I know these heads of hair so well I could probably cut them in the dark. We don't have any air conditioning, just a pedestal fan that moves the hot air around during the summer months. It gets very quiet here on Sunday afternoons when the market slows down. I usually close up early then to go home to my family. It’s a decent living and I like being my own boss in this little corner of the market. There is no need for anything more.
