Maa-Virasan Farmers Producer Company Limited is located at Hemchand Asati’s place in Gosalpur. Hemchand is the son of Ramdas, and his house is where we all gather. Gosalpur is a quiet place for the most part, but our meetings can get a bit loud when we start debating about seed prices. We are all farmers who realized that being a "producer company" helps us with the legal side of things. It’s not like a city office. We have bags of grain and farming tools sitting in the corners. People from the village stop by whenever they have a problem or just want to see what’s going on. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. You just walk in and talk to whoever is there. Most of the work involves coordinating between the different families in the area. We share what we have and try to buy things in bulk to save a little money. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes with the rules and the bank stuff, but we manage. Hemchand keeps the records in a big metal cupboard. We don't have any fancy mission statements or goals written on the walls. We just want to make sure the farming stays profitable enough for our kids to stay here. It is just basic, honest work done by people who have lived in Gosalpur their whole lives. We don't need things to be any more complicated than that.
