Hindubhumi Farmer Producer Company is set up at Meghraj Singh Thakur's place in Gram Gehuras, which is in the Gairatganj tehsil. It’s a rural spot, very far from the big city lights. We are surrounded by fields, which is exactly where we need to be. The company is basically just a group of us from the village trying to organize our farming a bit better. We don't have a dedicated office building with a sign outside. We usually just meet up at the house and sit on the porch or in the main room to talk about the season. There’s always tea being passed around and plenty of talk about the weather and the soil. We deal with the actual problems of farming every day. It’s not a business built on spreadsheets; it’s built on what we see in the ground. Gairatganj is a quiet place and we like it that way. We don't have a lot of outsiders coming through. Most of what we do is just for the local farmers who are part of the group. We try to figure out how to get better prices for what we grow. It’s a slow process and it takes a lot of patience. Sometimes the rain doesn't come when it’s supposed to and that changes all our plans. We just adapt and keep moving. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done, just a bit more organized now. We aren't looking to change the world, just our own little corner of it.
