Doon Heritage International School

Sakarpura is a quiet little spot near Bakhri, and that is where we have been for a while now. The school is right there among the fields, so you get a lot of air and sometimes the smell of the crops when they are being harvested. It isn’t like those big city schools with huge gates and security everywhere. We just have our building and the yard where the kids run around. The road to get here can be a bit bumpy, especially after it rains and the mud gets thick. We have a few classrooms that need a fresh coat of paint, but they serve their purpose for now. The teachers mostly come from the nearby villages, so everyone knows each other’s business. We start the day early before the sun gets too hot. There is no air conditioning, just the ceiling fans that hum all day long. Sometimes they make a clicking sound that you just get used to after a week. We don’t have a big cafeteria or anything, so most of us bring lunch from home and eat in the small office. The kids are mostly from the farms around Sakarpura and Bakhri. They are good kids, even if they get a bit rowdy during the lunch break. We just try to keep things organized and make sure the lessons get done. It’s a simple life out here, and the school is just one part of it.
