Operating Satyanarayan Steel Ind. in Gidc, Phase - 2 takes up most of my life. My brother and I run the floor, and we have about six or seven guys who help with the heavy lifting and the machinery. It’s a lot of standing on concrete all day. You can feel it in your knees by the time Friday rolls around. We deal with all kinds of steel, mostly just regular industrial stuff that people need for building things. The walls of the shop are stained dark from years of smoke and metal dust. We try to keep things organized, but when we get busy, stuff just ends up wherever there’s a gap on the floor. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. We usually have a lunch break all at the same time, sitting on some benches we made out of scrap wood. There isn’t much to the story other than we’ve been here since the phase started developing. We’ve seen other shops come and go, but we’ve managed to stay put. The machines are old, but we know how to fix them ourselves when they start making that clanking sound that shouldn't be there. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from sunrise till the sun goes down. Sometimes we even work Saturdays if there's a big pile of work that didn't get finished during the week or if a shipment is late coming in.
