About Workshop Production – Photography in Bengaluru
Down at number 62 in Basaveshwara Nagar, you’ll find Workshop Production. It’s basically a big room full of tools and materials. We do a lot of cutting and joining here, so there is usually a layer of dust on everything. It’s a noisy place. Between the saws and the hammering, you have to yell to be heard sometimes. We are a small group of people who just like making things. We don't have a showroom or a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll probably find us with grease on our hands or wood shavings in our hair. The building is old and the windows rattle when a heavy truck goes by. We’ve got a lot of half-finished projects sitting in the corners. Sometimes we take on too much and the place gets really cluttered. It’s not a polished operation by any means. We use old workbenches that have been around longer than we have. There’s a kettle in the corner for tea, which is how we start most mornings. We don't follow a strict corporate schedule. We stay until the job is finished. Basaveshwara Nagar is a quiet enough area, but we definitely add some noise to it. We like the hands-on part of the work. It’s satisfying to see something come together from raw parts. We don't spend much time on the computer. Most of our notes are scribbled on scraps of wood or the walls. It’s just a workshop doing what it does and we like it that way.
