Our workshop is at No. 11 on the First Cross in Hegganahalli. If you are in Peenya Second Stage, you probably know the area is full of machine shops and manufacturing units. We fit right in with the rest of them. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of metal shavings and oil, which is just part of the job. We have a couple of lathes and some other equipment that hums all day long. It isn't a quiet place by any means. When the machines are running, you have to shout a bit to be heard over the clanking and grinding. We spend our time working on various engineering parts, mostly stuff that people bring in with a rough drawing or an old piece that needs duplicating. There’s a small sink in the back where we try to scrub the grease off our hands before heading home, but it never really all comes off. We don't have a fancy office for meetings; we usually just talk at the workbench. Sometimes the power goes out and we all just sit outside on the steps for a bit until it comes back. It gives us a chance to see what’s happening on the street. People walk by, trucks move in and out of the industrial estate, and we just wait to get back to the metalwork. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from morning till the sun goes down. We've been at this spot for years and the neighbor’s dog still knows to come by for scraps at lunchtime.
