At Mothinagar 55, the door is painted a dark color and has a small handle that sticks sometimes. When you walk inside, it feels different from the street. It’s a bit quieter. We have high ceilings and some of the brickwork is showing where the plaster came off a few years ago. We decided to just leave it like that. There are various things scattered around, some old books, a few plants that need watering more often than they get, and plenty of chairs. People come here to just sit for a while. Maybe they work on a laptop or maybe they just look out the window at the people walking by in Mothinagar. We don’t have a lot of fancy decorations. There’s a big clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly when the room is empty. We spend our time dusting the shelves and making sure the light bulbs aren't burnt out. Sometimes we rearrange the furniture just to see how it looks. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks running through the middle. It’s not a perfect place, but it’s ours. We usually have some music playing quietly in the background, something simple that doesn’t bother anyone. The afternoon sun comes in through the top windows and hits the back wall. That is usually the best part of the day. We stay open until the sun goes down and the street lights at number 55 flicker on.
