About Horticulture Lalbagh Botanical Garden – Tourism in Bengaluru
Working here at the Horticulture Lalbagh Botanical Garden means spending a lot of time outdoors. We are over on the West side, right on Gultekdi Road. It is a big area to look after, so there is always something that needs doing. Sometimes we are weeding the patches and other times we are just making sure the paths are clear for whoever comes to walk through. The weather really dictates what our day looks like. If it rains hard, we spend more time in the sheds or checking the drainage. It’s not a desk job, that’s for sure. My boots are usually covered in dirt by lunchtime. We get a mix of people coming through, some who know every plant name and others who just want some shade. The trees have been here a lot longer than I have. We try to keep the signs readable so people don't get lost on the way to the West gate. It can get pretty busy on the weekends when families show up with their kids. We just keep up with the pruning and the watering as best as we can. Gultekdi Road can get a bit congested during peak hours, but once you get inside the gates, the noise from the cars starts to fade out. It's just a lot of greenery and some old buildings where we keep the tools. We don't do anything too fancy, just the basic work of keeping a garden going day after day and making sure the plants stay alive.
