Down on Dr D N Road in Nagawara, you can find our little patch of green at number 143. Flora Gardeners is mostly just a bunch of plants, pots, and bags of dirt spread out in no particular order. We spend most of our time outside, so our clothes are usually covered in some kind of garden mess. It isn’t the neatest shop you’ll ever see, but we know where everything is kept. People come by when their indoor plants start looking sad or when they want to try growing something on their roof. We don't use any big words or complicated theories about botany. We just tell folks what we’ve noticed works well in this local weather. Sometimes the hose leaks and makes a puddle right by the entrance, so you have to watch your step. We have a lot of different flowers depending on the season, and some of them smell better than others. It gets quite humid under the shade nets, especially in the middle of the day. We don't have a fancy office or a computer to track things; we mostly just keep everything in our heads or write it down in a notebook. It’s hard work, and our backs usually ache by the time we close up, but it is a quiet way to spend the day among the leaves and the soil, making sure everything gets enough water to survive the heat.
