Tavern At The Inn

You find us on Mahathma Gandhi Road, right there on the corner of Narayanapilai Street 1. It’s an old building and you can tell by the way the floorboards creak when you walk in. We don’t have fancy lights, just some old lamps that give off a dim yellow glow. The tables are heavy wood and some of them have scratches from years of glasses being slid across. Most days, the place stays quiet until late afternoon when the offices nearby start letting out. That is when the noise picks up and the staff starts running around with trays. The fridge behind the bar makes a constant humming sound that you stop noticing after ten minutes. We keep the glasses on the back shelf, all lined up by size. Sometimes the tap for the water leaks a little bit, so there is always a rag sitting there to catch the drips. The walls have some old pictures that have been there since I can remember. We don’t change much around here. The menu is just a printed sheet of paper tucked into a plastic folder. People come in, find a spot, and stay for a couple of hours. At night, we lock the heavy front door and the street outside goes silent. It takes a while to wipe everything down and get the chairs put back in their places. Tomorrow is just going to be the same thing over again.
