Tarangini Institute Of Veena

If you walk down 4th Cross on Sirur Park Road, you’ll find us at number 42. Malleshwaram is a busy area, but our little corner for the Tarangini Institute Of Veena stays mostly quiet except for the music. We have been here for a good amount of time. People know us as the place where the heavy wooden cases are always being moved around. The veena is a big instrument, so it takes up a lot of space in our rooms. We don't have much in the way of decoration, mostly just the instruments and some mats on the floor for people to sit on. It’s a simple setup. Some days the humidity makes the strings go out of tune constantly, which is a bit of a headache. We spend half the morning just getting everything to sound right. I think people like coming here because it’s familiar. There’s no front desk or formal greeting. You just take your shoes off and come inside. We have students of all ages. Some are quite old and just want to keep their hands busy, while others are young kids whose parents live nearby. It’s just a regular part of the neighborhood. We don’t really change much around here. The curtains have been the same for years and the floors are a bit worn down from everyone walking across them. That’s just the way it is at the Tarangini Institute Of Veena. We’re just here doing our thing every day.
