Our studio is based in Jayanagar, which is one of those parts of Bangalore that still feels a bit like the old days because of all the big trees. We’ve been working out of this area for a while now because it’s a nice, quiet place to sit and think about architecture. A massive team isn't what we have, just a few of us who are really interested in how houses and buildings come together. Sketches and scraps of paper usually cover the office surfaces. A lot of our time is spent talking about materials and looking at different types of wood or stone samples. Getting a design just right for a client can be a slow process sometimes. Being the biggest firm in the city doesn't interest us; we just want to do good work for the people who come to us. Because we see a lot of different styles of homes right outside our door, Jayanagar is a great neighborhood for this. During lunch, we often take walks around the blocks to get new ideas. Samples of tiles or paint colors are often lying around on the floor or the desks since it's a very hands-on job. We usually end up with designs that are simple and honest because that's how we like them. Instead of being flashy, we focus on making sure a space feels right for the person actually living in it. Every day we show up, drink our coffee, and draw until the sun goes down.
