Our shop is tucked into the 4th Main of Vijaynagar, right at the corner of 3rd Cross. It is a small space, but it is always packed with buckets of flowers that we get from the market before the sun even comes up. The floor is usually wet from the water we spray to keep the roses and jasmine fresh. We have been doing decorations in this part of Bangalore for a long time now. Most of our work is for the local houses around here—simple garlands for a housewarming or a small wedding setup. It’s a messy job, really. Your fingers get green from the stems and the smell of the lilies can be a bit much after eight hours. We don't have a fancy showroom with pictures on the walls. People just come in, tell us what they need, and we start tying the thread. Sometimes people bring their own designs they saw on the internet, and we try our best to match them with what flowers are in season. The traffic on 4th Main can be a nightmare in the evenings, so we are always rushing to get the deliveries out on time. It is a family-run kind of thing, so you might see my cousins or uncle helping out when there’s a big festival like Varamahalakshmi or Ganesh Chaturthi. It’s just honest work with things that grow in the ground and we like staying in this neighborhood.
