Sri Chowdeswari Silks

We are tucked away at 64, 3Rd Cross in Cubbonpet. If you know the area, you know how narrow the lanes can get around here. Sri Chowdeswari Silks has been in this neighborhood for years. It’s a very traditional part of town for the silk trade. Our shop isn't big, but we pack a lot into it. There are rolls of silk everywhere you look. We spend our days showing different fabrics to people who come in or measuring out lengths for orders. It’s a lot of standing on your feet and moving heavy rolls around. The lighting inside is a bit dim, but we can tell the quality of the silk just by the feel of it. We don't use any fancy sales tactics. We just show what we have and let the person decide. Sometimes we sit out front on the steps when things are slow. Most of our neighbors are doing the same kind of work, so it feels like a real community. We know everyone on the street. It’s not a corporate environment at all. It’s just a family-run kind of place where we take things one day at a time. We don't have a big mission statement or anything. We just want to sell good silk and make enough to keep the lights on. It’s a simple life for us here in this corner of the city.
