If you come looking for us at Sterling Complex, you have to head down to the basement floor. That’s where units 1 through 5 are. It stays a bit cooler down there, which is nice when Rajaji Nagar gets hot in the afternoons. The Industrial Estate is a busy place, always has been. You can hear the machines humming even from the stairs. We’ve been in this basement for a long time now. It’s not the brightest spot, but we have plenty of lights rigged up so we can see what we’re doing. The walls are a bit stained from the oil and the metal dust, but that’s engineering for you. It’s a messy job. Most of the guys have been here for years. We know each other's habits and who takes their tea with too much sugar. Rajaji Nagar has changed a lot, and the traffic is way worse now, but the estate feels the same. We handle a lot of different jobs, whatever comes through the door really. Sometimes it’s a big project that takes weeks, other times it’s just a quick fix for someone down the street. We don’t have a fancy reception area or anyone in a suit. If you want to talk to us, you just walk in and find whoever isn't holding a torch or a wrench at that moment. It’s practical. We like it that way because it keeps things simple and honest for everyone.
