Sree Lakshmi Devi Silks is situated in the Vuh Complex, which is at 28/3 on SP Road, right near Avenue Road. If you know that area, you know how packed and lively it gets. It is the heart of the old market district. Our shop is inside the complex, so it’s a bit of a relief to get out of the direct sun and the street noise. We have been here for a long time, surrounded by other silk shops and traders. The space is quite small for the amount of silk we try to keep in stock. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, and sometimes we have to use a ladder just to show a customer a specific color. It’s not a polished boutique. It’s a place where we do business every day, sometimes while eating our lunch at the back counter. We don't use any fancy words to describe what we do. We just sell silk. People come to us because they know we are right here in the middle of the Avenue Road market area. It’s a lot of folding and unfolding fabric all day long. By the time we close the shutters at night, we are usually pretty tired. But it’s a good kind of busy. We just take it one customer at a time and try to keep the shelves stocked.
