Sonu Watch Works

Down here at Sonu Watch Works, we’re tucked away in the 4th Block of Jayanagar. Specifically, we are below the Archies Gallery on Tank Bund Road, near Kempegowda Circle. It’s a busy corner, especially with people going to the gallery or heading towards the bus stop. The shop is small, number 47 on the list. I spend most of my day with a loupe tucked into my eye, looking at tiny internal parts. Being near the circle means there is always a lot of honking and the smell of street food from the nearby stalls. It’s a good spot, though. People drop off their watches on their way to do other shopping in Jayanagar. I’ve seen all sorts of watches come through, from old mechanical ones that belong to grandfathers to the cheap plastic ones kids wear. The space under the gallery is a bit cool even when it’s hot outside, which is nice. Sometimes the lights flicker when the power is acting up, but we have a small backup. It’s a simple life, just fixing things and talking to the regulars who live around the 4th block. You get to know the faces after a few years. It’s not a fancy showroom, just a place where work gets done with a bit of patience and some old tools. We keep the counter clear as much as possible, but there's always a stray battery or strap lying around after a busy afternoon.
