Shri Mangalya Silks

We have been set up at 148/1-2 on 9th E Main for a long time now. Avenue Road always feels crowded, especially in the mornings when the other shops start opening their shutters. I usually get here a little before ten to get the locks open and turn on the old lights. The place is tucked into the 1st Stage, and sometimes the traffic outside makes it hard for people to find a spot to park their scooters. Inside, it is just rows of wooden shelves with all the different silks we keep in stock. It gets a bit dusty because of the road work happening nearby, so there is a lot of cleaning to do every single morning before anyone walks through the door. We spend most of the day just folding and unfolding fabrics. If you know this part of the city, you know how the lanes get narrow and loud. My father used to say this area never really stays quiet. We have some regular people who have been coming here since they were very young. It isn't some fancy showroom with heavy air conditioning that makes you shiver. We just have a couple of fans and some old benches for people to sit on while they look at the different colors. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a quick break. It is just a regular shop where we try to keep things in some kind of order. Usually, by seven, we start thinking about closing up.
