About Shankar Engineering Works – Engineering in Bengaluru
We are over at 83/5 Sudham Nagar, just a short walk from the Urvashi Theatre. If you live around here, you’ve probably walked past us while the shutters were up and heard the grinders going. Shankar Engineering Works isn't a fancy place with a glass front. It’s a workshop where we get our hands dirty every single day. Most days, it’s just the sound of metal hitting metal and the smell of cutting oil in the air. We’ve been in this spot for quite some time now. People bring us all sorts of things that need fixing or making. Sometimes it’s a small part for a machine, other times it’s something bigger that takes up half the floor space. We don’t have a big office or a secretary answering phones. Usually, if you call, one of us has to wipe our hands on a rag before picking up. The floor is concrete and has stains from years of work, which is how a real workshop should look, I think. We just focus on the job at hand. When the sun goes down, we clean up the tools, lock the gates, and head home like everyone else in Sudham Nagar. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do. If you're looking for us, look for the big blue door near the theatre. We’re usually there from morning until late evening, making sure we finish the work we promised for the day before we finally close.
