Sai Ceramics

Our shop, Sai Ceramics, is located in Jayanagar 1st Block. We are specifically at 10th Cross in the Valmikinagar area, at number 55. We sell tiles and different kinds of ceramic items for homes. It’s a family-run place that has been around for a long time. My father started it, and now I handle the daily work. We have a lot of heavy samples leaning against the walls, so you have to be careful when you walk around. It’s a dusty job because of all the stone and clay products we carry. We spend a lot of time talking to people who are building or fixing their houses. They bring in paint samples, and we try to find a tile that looks okay with it. The shop is on a corner, so we get a bit of a breeze when the shutters are up. We don't have a big computer system; I still write out the bills by hand in a ledger book. Sometimes the trucks bringing the new stock can't get down the narrow cross street, and we have to carry the boxes by hand. It’s hard work on the back, but it’s what we’ve always done. We know most of the people on this street by their first names. It’s a quiet neighborhood for the most part, except for the sound of the temple bells nearby. We just stay open until the sun goes down and then we head home.
