S S Caterers is found at No.38/9 on the first floor of a building in the 6th Main of Appareddypalya, Indiranagar. To get to us, you have to head up a narrow set of stairs that can be a bit of a challenge when we are carrying heavy bags of rice or vegetables. The first floor gives us a bit of a view of the street, which is usually packed with cars and bikes. It is not a quiet neighborhood, but we have gotten used to the constant honking. The workspace is divided into a few different sections for cleaning and cooking. We don't have any decorations on the walls, just a few hooks for our aprons and a big clock that we all keep an eye on. The air is always a bit humid from the steam coming off the large vessels. We spend a lot of time scrubbing the counters and making sure everything is in its place. It is a simple operation and we don't put much effort into how the place looks to outsiders. Most of our day is spent on our feet, moving between the stoves and the packing table. The sink is almost never empty because there is always something that needs washing. It is a basic, functional space where we focus on getting the tasks done. We don't have a fancy waiting room, just a small area near the door for the delivery guys.
