Ratna Engineering

Being out on Jalahalli Airport Road means we see a lot of trucks passing by. Ratna Engineering is tucked away here near the outskirts. The workshop floor is usually covered in some kind of metal shavings or oil. It smells like machines and old grease. We don't wear suits to work. It’s mostly just work shirts and jeans that get stained pretty fast. The sun hits the metal roof in the afternoon and it gets quite warm inside. We have a few big fans to keep the air moving. Most of the guys have been here for a long time. We know each other's families and what everyone likes for lunch. There is a small area in the back where we keep the tools organized, or at least we try to. Sometimes the delivery trucks get lost trying to find us. We just give them directions over the phone while we finish up a job. It’s not a polished corporate place at all. It’s more of a place where you get your hands dirty. We have a lot of scrap metal piled up in the corner that we need to clear out one of these days. People stop by with broken parts and we see what we can do. It’s steady work. We like being away from the main city traffic. It’s just a regular engineering shop doing its bit every day. We hope to stay here as long as the airport road keeps bringing people our way for help.
