R K N Engineering Works is found at Kurubarahalli Road 65. It’s a place where there is always the sound of metal hitting metal or machines running. We do a lot of different types of manual work here. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings and oil, which is just part of being an engineering shop. We have some old machines that still work better than the new ones sometimes. It’s a bit dark inside because we focus more on the work than on having bright lights everywhere. People from around Kurubarahalli bring us all sorts of things to fix or weld. We don't have a front desk or a receptionist. If you walk in, you just talk to whoever isn't busy with a machine at that moment. We wear grease-stained clothes most of the time because it’s impossible to stay clean in this job. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We just get the measurements right and do the work as best as we can. Some days are slower than others, but there is always something to clean or a tool to sharpen. We’ve been at this number 65 spot for years. The neighborhood has changed but we just keep doing what we do. It’s a straightforward way to make a living, and we like the physical nature of it. No matter the task, we just try to get it done properly.
