If you come down to Peenya 26, you will hear us before you see us. The machines make a lot of noise throughout the day and the smell of oil is always there. We started this place because we knew how to handle the lathes and the drills. Most days are spent looking at drawings and trying to get the measurements exactly where they need to be. It is not clean work. Our hands are usually stained with grease by ten in the morning. We have a small team here in Peenya and everyone knows their job. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to spend half the day fixing it ourselves instead of running parts. That’s just how it goes in a workshop. The office is just a small corner with a desk and some old files. We don’t spend much time there anyway. Most of our life is on the shop floor. It gets hot in the afternoons, especially in the summer, but we keep the fans going. We take our tea breaks together outside near the gate. It is hard work and it is tiring, but we’ve been doing it for years now. There is always a pile of scrap metal in the corner waiting to be picked up. We just focus on getting the orders done and keeping the machines running. It is a noisy life, but we like it that way.
