Praroha Kathak Natyalaya

Praroha Kathak Natyalaya is our little dance space on Domlur Subhanpura Road. It’s a simple room with wooden floors and some mirrors on the walls. Much of our time is spent here practicing the steps and teaching the students. Kathak is what we do every day. Instead of being a big academy with lots of branches, it is just this one place where we gather. The neighborhood is fairly busy but once you come inside it’s all about the rhythm. Students of different ages come by in the afternoons. Some are just starting out and others have been with us for years. A big marketing team isn't something we have. Most people hear about us from their friends or family. Keeping the space clean and the bells ready for the dancers is part of the routine. Sometimes we have small programs right here in the room. The road outside can be noisy with the traffic from Subhanpura but we just focus on the music. Starting this was because I wanted a place to teach. Keeping it going is a lot of hard work but we enjoy the dancing. We don't use fancy terms to describe what we do. It is just about learning the art and practicing hard. If you walk down Domlur Subhanpura Road you might hear the sound of the ghungroos. We are just a local school doing our thing every day.
