Pragathi Silks

Pragathi Silks is located on the 1st floor of 189 Binny Mill Road. We’ve been here for quite a few years, and the neighborhood has changed a lot around us. Being on the first floor gives us a little bit of a break from the direct chaos of the street, but Binny Mill Road is always active. Our space is filled with rolls of fabric and various items we’ve collected over time. It’s not a fancy boutique by any means. We have old fans and simple shelves, and that’s how we like it. We focus on the silk trade because it’s what our family has always done. It’s just a few of us running the show, and we don't have any formal hierarchy. If the phone rings, whoever is closest picks it up. If someone walks in, we stop what we're doing to help them out. We don't use any complicated sales tactics or try to push people into buying things they don't need. Most of our customers are folks from the local area who have been coming to us since we first opened. We try to be fair and honest with everyone who climbs the stairs to see us. It’s a quiet, steady kind of business. We open up in the morning, have our coffee, and stay until the sun goes down. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s our life and we are proud of the shop we've built together.
