We are located at No.148 on Dharmaraja Koil Street. You’ll find us right next to the Taj Hotel in Shivaji Nagar. This part of the city is always packed with people and the streets are very narrow. It can be quite a struggle just to get a vehicle through sometimes. Ponnuswamy & Sons has been around for a while and we’ve seen the street change so much over the years. The noise from the market nearby is constant but we’ve grown used to it. Our shop is a bit old-fashioned and we haven't really changed much of the layout. It works for us. We spend our days dealing with customers and managing the stock we have in the back. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving boxes around. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We don't have air conditioning or anything like that. Just a few old ceiling fans that buzz a lot. We know most of the other shop owners on the street and we often share tea in the afternoons. It’s a tight-knit community here even if it looks chaotic to outsiders. We just do our work and go home when the sun sets. It’s not a glamorous life but it’s our life and we’re okay with it. Every day is different and that keeps us going.
