About Nrityanjali School Of Barathanatyam – Education in Bengaluru
Setting up Nrityanjali School Of Barathanatyam near the Sansvat Hospital in Banashankari was a practical choice because everyone knows the landmark. We spend most of our evenings here. You can usually hear the bells and the rhythmic tapping from the street if the windows are open. It’s a dance space, plain and simple. We have wooden floors that we try to keep clean, though dust always finds its way in. Students of all ages come through the doors, some straight from school with their bags still on. It’s not a fancy studio with mirrors on every single wall, but it works for what we need. We focus on the steps and the hand movements. Sometimes we stay late to get a sequence right. It gets hot in the summer, so the fans are always going full blast. We’ve been teaching Barathanatyam here for a good bit of time now. The local families know us. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. Word just gets around. Usually, there’s a parent or two waiting outside on their scooters. It’s a quiet routine. We teach, they learn, and then we lock up and head home. There isn't much more to it than that. It’s just about passing on the dance the way we were taught. Sometimes a student trips or forgets a mudra, and we just start over. That’s how it goes in a real classroom. It stays busy and we like the noise.
