Nithyananda School Of Music

At Nithyananda School of Music, things are usually pretty loud, but in a good way. We are tucked away on Chunam Lane, near Lamington Road 620 in the Nagarbhavi area. It’s an old building, and the sound of instruments carries through the halls pretty much all day long. We teach all sorts of things, mostly traditional stuff, but sometimes kids want to learn modern tunes too. We don't have soundproof studios or high-tech equipment. It’s just rooms with some rugs on the floor and instruments leaning against the walls. Some of the harmoniums have been here longer than I have. We started this because we love music, and there wasn't a place nearby for the local kids to learn. It’s not a polished conservatory. It's just a place where you can come and practice without anyone telling you to be quiet. The floors creak and the windows rattle when someone hits a high note, but it adds to the character of the place. We don't have a fancy registration process. You just show up, talk to us, and start playing. It’s a community thing more than a business. We see the same faces every week, and we've watched a lot of these kids grow up. It’s a nice way to spend the day. We usually have some incense burning and the kettle is always on for the teachers. It feels like home here.
