You can find New Chitra Time Centre over at 58/2, directly across from Devi Theatre in Srirampuram. Being right across from the cinema means we see a lot of people passing by, especially when a big movie is playing and the crowds come out. Some people stop in while waiting for the show to start just to look at the wall clocks or to get their wrist watch adjusted. The shop isn't very large, so we have to use every bit of wall space to hang the various clocks we have. We’ve got some that chime and some that are completely silent. Srirampuram has its own pace, and we’ve become a part of the local scenery here over time. The counter is usually covered with bits of metal and tiny screwdrivers because there is always something that needs fixing or adjusting. We don’t use any high-tech systems to manage things; we just know where everything is kept on the shelves. The paint on the front door is peeling a little, and we keep meaning to fix it, but there’s always more work to do on the watches that come in. We get a mix of young kids wanting something cheap and older folks bringing in pieces they’ve had for thirty or forty years. It’s a practical place for people who just want their timepieces to work right. We usually close up once the last movie crowd for the day thins out and the street gets a bit quieter.
