Manjula Hand Loom is tucked away on 3rd Cross in Arkere, specifically in the BTS Layout area near Bannerghatta. I started this place at house number 45 because I’ve always worked with fabrics and hand-woven stuff. It’s a quiet street mostly, until the afternoon when people start heading home from work. The shop isn't very large, just enough room for the looms and the finished cloth we have ready. You can hear the wooden parts clicking if you come by at the right time. I do most of the work myself, though sometimes I get a bit of help when a big order needs finishing. It’s hard work on the hands, but it’s what I know how to do. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we first set up here. More buildings and more traffic on the main road, but our little corner stays about the same. People come by when they want something that isn't made in a big factory. I don't have a website or anything like that. If someone wants to see what I have, they just walk through the door. I usually keep some water for visitors because the walk from the main Bannerghatta road can be a bit long in the heat. It’s just me and the fabric, day in and day out. Sometimes the patterns come out a bit different than expected, but that's just how handloom works. It's a slow process and I don't like to rush it too much.
