Mahapragya Silk Palace

We are over here at Chickpet 64, right in the middle of all the noise and the crowds. Running a place like Mahapragya Silk Palace takes a lot of patience because silk is a tricky thing to handle day in and day out. Most days it’s just us folding things back up after someone spent an hour looking through the piles. The shop isn't some big shiny showroom you see in the malls, it’s just our space where we keep the stock and talk to people who know what they are looking for. Chickpet is always busy, so we get used to the sounds of the street while we work. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years, but we just keep doing what we do. Sometimes the lights flicker or the tea arrives late, but that’s just how it goes when you’re working in an old part of town. We don’t really do fancy ads or anything like that. People just find us or they’ve been coming here since their parents brought them. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy rolls and making sure nothing gets snagged on the edges of the wooden counters. We just try to keep things organized enough so we can find what a customer asks for without too much trouble. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we have the fans going and we just keep at it until it's time to close up the shutters for the night.
