Mahabir Marbles

Our yard is located at No-31/1, right there near the Doddakannelli Carmelaram Circle. If you know Sarjapur Road, you know how much it has changed over the years. It used to be much quieter, but now it’s all trucks and new buildings going up everywhere. We’ve been sitting on this corner watching it happen. Mahabir Marbles is basically a big open space where we stack the marble slabs. It’s not a shiny showroom like the ones you see in the middle of the city. We have mud on the floor when it rains and plenty of noise from the circle outside. Most of our day is spent moving heavy pieces of stone around with the crane. It’s a lot of manual labor. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait, or we talk to the drivers who bring the blocks in from the quarries. People come by looking for something for their kitchen or a floor, and we just show them what’s in the stacks. Sometimes they find what they want, sometimes they don't. We don't do much fancy talking here. We just know which stones are hard and which ones might crack if you aren't careful. It’s a simple business, really. We open up in the morning, sweep the front a bit, and wait for the first customer. It's a long day usually, but being near the circle keeps things interesting with all the people passing by our gate throughout the afternoon.
