Silkosa Fabrics

Silkosa Fabrics is located on the first floor of Madhava Mansion. We are at number 22 on J. M. Road, right at the 1st Cross. If you walk up the stairs, you will see rolls of fabric stacked up everywhere. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes because we have so much new stock arriving every week. We spend most of our time cutting cloth and checking the patterns for any flaws. The light isn't always great in the back storage room but we make it work with a few extra lamps. Customers come in looking for specific colors or materials for their projects. Sometimes they spend an hour just touching the different silks and cottons. We don't mind that. It’s better than them picking something they won’t like once they get home. The building is pretty old and the lift can be moody, so most people just use the stairs to reach us. We have these big wooden tables for measuring and cutting. There is always thread and bits of lint on the floor. We try to sweep up every evening but it’s a never-ending task. The street outside is always loud with traffic and people going about their business. We’ve been in this spot for years now. It’s very familiar to us. We know the tea seller downstairs and the other shop owners. We just pile the fabrics up so people can see what is available.
