If you know Chamarajpet, you know it is one of those old parts of Bangalore where things still feel a bit traditional. Our place, Madan Kalyana Mantap, is tucked behind Nalanda Theatre on 9th Cross. It is a functional space for weddings and small gatherings. We have seen so many families come through these doors to celebrate. It is not a five-star hall with crystal chandeliers. It is a practical building with enough room for people to sit, eat, and talk. We spend a lot of our time cleaning up after one event and getting ready for the next one. There is always a lot of hauling chairs around and making sure the kitchen area is ready for the caterers. The street outside can get a bit cramped when there is a big function, but that is just part of being in this neighborhood. We do not have a big marketing team. Most people book us because their parents or their neighbors had an event here years ago. We try to keep the lights working and the floors swept. Sometimes the plumbing acts up or a bulb goes out right when the guests arrive, but we fix it as fast as we can. It is a lot of physical work, especially during the wedding season when we barely get any sleep. We just provide the space and try to stay out of the way so families can enjoy their day.
