Komathi Engineering Works

You’ll find our place at 21A Doorvani Nagar. We are inside the Narayanda Reddy Estate, right on the Vijinapura FCI Godown Road. It’s a busy spot because of all the huge trucks going to the godowns. The whole building vibrates a bit when the big lorries rumble past our door. We do general engineering, which mostly means we fix things that break or make custom parts for local factories. The shop is a bit dark, even with the lights on, and there’s always a thin layer of metal dust on the benches. We’ve got some old lathes and a welding area that stays pretty busy. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a suit. We are usually covered in some kind of grease or grime by noon. Most of our customers are people from the estate who have known us for a long time. We don't have a computer for the business, just a few handwritten notebooks where we track what’s coming in and going out. It’s a simple way to work, but it has worked for us for years. When it rains, the road gets pretty muddy, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the floor. We just keep our heads down and do the work that comes our way. It’s a decent living and we like the independence we have here.
