Karnataka Watch Works

Down here in Chickpet at number 180, things are always moving fast. This shop, Karnataka Watch Works, has been a part of this street for a long time. We spend most of our time looking through small lenses at tiny gears and springs. It’s quiet work in a loud neighborhood. Sometimes people come in with watches that haven't ticked in twenty years, and we just see what we can do. It’s not always about fixing things perfectly; sometimes it’s just about making them work again for a few more years. The space is small, and there are tools everywhere on the workbench. We don’t have a big team or a flashy display. Usually, it's just one or two of us sitting here with our magnifying glasses. We handle all sorts of watches, from the old mechanical ones that belong to grandfathers to the newer battery ones that people wear every day. People stop by on their way to the market or after work. The dust from the road gets in sometimes, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the glass counters. It’s a honest way to spend the day. We don’t promise miracles, but we know our way around a watch movement. If you’re walking through Chickpet, you’ll find us easily enough among all the other shops. We’re usually there from morning until the lights go out on the street.
