If you find yourself in the Peenya Industrial Estate, look for the Shanimahatma Temple. We are right near there, in the Nirmal Kaur Building at No. 43/28 on 4th Main. This is the 2nd Phase of the estate, so it’s always buzzing with activity. We make gears here, and it’s a process that takes a lot of patience. The machines we use have been with us for a long time, and we’ve learned all their little quirks. The building itself is older, and you can tell by the way the walls look and the way the stairs creak. We don’t mind it much. It’s a solid place to work. During the day, the air is thick with the smell of grease and the sound of metal being cut. We have a small window that looks out toward the street, but it’s usually too dirty to see much through. Most of our day is spent standing on the concrete floor, checking the teeth on gears and making sure everything is aligned. Sometimes we hear the bells from the temple, which is a nice break from the industrial noise. People often get lost trying to find us since the numbering in Peenya can be confusing, but once they find the temple, they usually find us. We’re just a group of regular guys doing our jobs and trying to get things done right. It isn't a glamorous life, but it’s ours.
