Kancheepuram Murugan Silk Co-Operative Society Ltd

We are located on the floor above Harsha Hotel in the K S Complex on Killari Road. Chickpet is always a bit chaotic, so you have to look for the sign carefully. Being a co-operative society means we work a bit differently than the private shops around us. We have a lot of weavers who are part of our group. Our space at 256/5 isn't modern or anything. It has got old shelves and a lot of bundles of silk everywhere. We deal mainly with Kancheepuram styles because that is what we know best. It is a bit of a climb up the stairs, but most people don't mind. We have been in this building for years. The noise from the street downstairs never really stops, but inside we just focus on the work. We do not spend money on fancy decorations or lighting. We think the fabric should speak for itself. Most of our customers are regulars who have been coming to Chickpet for decades. They know where to find us. We keep things pretty straightforward here. No big sales pitches or loud music. Just a group of people making sure the weavers get a fair deal and the customers get real silk. It gets a bit hot in the summer with the low ceilings, but we have fans running all day. It is just a normal day-to-day operation for us and we keep it that way.
