Kanchee Kamakshi Silks

We are over here at 653/1 near Chickpet Square. The address says Sector 22 C Chandigarh but really we are right on BVK Iyengar Road where the traffic never stops. Kanchee Kamakshi Silks is basically just us and the rows of fabric. Every morning someone has to sweep the front because the dust from the road gets everywhere. It’s a busy spot. You can hear the horns honking all day long while we move the heavy bundles around. Sometimes the light in the back flickers a bit but we know where everything is kept. It’s not a fancy place with big carpets or anything. We just have the shelves piled high with silk. My father used to say the road gets busier every year and he was right about that. We spend a lot of time just folding things back up after people look at them. The tea man comes around at eleven and that’s usually the best part of the morning. Most days it’s just about getting through the stock and making sure the piles don’t fall over. It’s been this way for a long time. People find us because of the big sign near the square. The fans hum pretty loud when it gets hot in the afternoon. We don't change much around here, the walls are the same color they were ten years ago and the floor is a bit worn out in the spots where people stand the most.
