Garment Industrial Engineer

Our shop is on 19th Cross, right behind the Cyclon Church in Sir M.V. Nagar. It’s a bit of a tucked-away spot in the Ramamurthy Nagar area of Bangalore. We call ourselves Garment Industrial Engineer, though that sounds a bit more formal than we actually are. Mostly, we deal with the technical side of how clothes are put together. We have some old machines and a lot of blueprints and patterns hanging on the walls. The church nearby is a good landmark because otherwise, people get lost in these lanes. Bangalore has changed so much with all the tech companies, but this neighborhood still feels like the old days. We don't have a big HR department or a PR person. If you call, you’ll probably talk to the owner or one of the two guys who work the machines. We spend most of our time measuring things and figuring out why a certain seam isn't holding right. It’s quiet work, mostly. We don’t have a lunchroom, so we just eat at our desks or go to the small canteen down the road. Sometimes the power cuts off, and we just sit and wait for it to come back. We’re not looking to become a giant corporation. We just like solving these little engineering problems for the garment trade. It's honest work and it keeps us busy. We usually lock up and head home before the evening traffic gets too bad.
